Tourin'. Week 4.

Thursday 4th, Jun 2009

So here I am, back in freezing cold Melbourne reflecting on another week of touring.  Actually, it was really only two shows, the first of which was Radelaide on Thursday at the Gov.  We flew in Thursday afternoon and went straight to Gouchos restaurant for lunch.  This place is an Argentinian steak house that has become a bit of a tradition for us in Adelaide.  This time was made even better cos Poltzy was footing the bill and it aint cheap, especially when you are washing it down with a couple of bottles of the Barossa’s finest.  He’s been telling us he made some good money out of co-writing a global smash hit with Jewel so it was time he put his money where his mouth is....and he did.

Fortunately by the time we got on stage that night my meal had digested somewhat and I was able to move.  Once again, the Radelaide crowd did not disappoint and much fun is had by all and sundry.  We seem to be following Little Birdy around the country.  This has been the second time that we have found bits of confetti on the ground, like little droppings being left behind.

The next day we fly to Perth for the show at the Fly By Night.  Home town gigs make me more nervous than usual.  I find it much harder when there are people in the crowd I actually know.  Even the “random stranger” I picked out from the crowd for “Power Of Speech” I recognised.  I guess that’s home towns for you and besides, Perth has always been one of those places where everyone kinda knows everyone, even if by a few degrees of separation.  I felt a little overwhelmed this evening.  Perhaps it was cos it was Poltzy’s last show, but I doubt it.

After the gig we went to Poltzy’s hotel for an end of tour party where we presented him with a little draw string pouch made of genuine kangaroo scrotum.  I suggested he used it to store his plectrums.  The texture was incredibly soft and smooth to touch.

The next day while everyone flew home or slept in or were still partying from the night before I was off to Billy Hydes to play the final in store gig of the tour and it turned out to be the best of the lot, so than you to those who came along!

So I’ve had the week to rest up and watch Family Ties dvds before I fly to Brisbane tomorrow for the next show in Eumundi.  Just to explain the Family Ties thing, Steve Poltz’s tour manager, Milan, gave me the first five seasons of Family Ties on dvd as a present.  I used to love this show when I was a kid so have been enjoying a cheesy trip down memory lane – Thanks Milan!

I can’t wait to play in Cairns and Eumundi and Erina this weekend.  Unfortunately the Sodens show in Albury got cancelled next week cos it’s been bought out by a new owner or something but I will still be playing Belgrave, Ballarat and San Remo in solo style so come on down!

Cheers!
